Visa Information & Invitation Letter

Visa Information

Visitors to the mainland of the People's Republic of China must obtain a visa from one of the Chinese diplomatic missions unless they are citizens of one of the visa-exempt countries.

There are several visa options for attendees. We strongly recommend that you first explore visa-free entry, transit visas, or a tourist (L) visa before considering an F visa. If you have further questions, please consult your nearest Chinese embassy or consulate for the most up-to-date guidance.

1. Visa-Free Entry

Holders of ordinary passports from eligible countries may enter China without a visa for short-term visits.

2. Transit Visa

Citizens of ~55 countries can transit through China visa-free when traveling onward to a third country:

  • 24-hour visa-free transit (with interline ticket)
  • 72-hour / 144-hour visa-free transit (54 eligible countries)
  • 240-hour visa-free transit

Note: Usually not suitable for conference attendance unless you are genuinely in transit.

3. L Visa (Tourist Visa)

Intended for tourism, sightseeing, or personal visits.

  • Required for attendees from countries not on the visa-free lists
  • Typically valid for 30–90 days (single or multiple entry)
  • Requires: valid passport, proof of accommodation, return/onward flight ticket

4. F Visa (Visit/Exchange Visa)

Intended for non-commercial exchanges, academic visits, and short-term professional events.

  • Recommended for invited speakers, presenters, and academic participants
  • Requires an official invitation letter from the AACL-IJCNLP 2026 Organizer
  • Usually valid for 30–90 days

Quick Reference Guide

  • If your country is on the 30-day visa-free list: You may not need a visa.
  • If your country is on the 10-day transit list only: You likely still need a visa for AACL-IJCNLP 2026.
  • If you are an invited speaker/presenter: Request an F Visa invitation letter from the organizers.
  • If you are attending as a general participant or tourist: Apply for an L Visa.

⚠ Important Note for Attendees

Visa policies can change. Always confirm the latest requirements with your local Chinese embassy/consulate before applying.

Chinese visa processing may take a few weeks. Participants are strongly encouraged to apply at least TWO months ahead of their departure date to allow sufficient time for processing and visa issuance.
